Who are we?

Bangwe HIV/Aids Self Help Initiative (BAHASI) is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that was established in 2004. We are registered with the local government, Blantyre District Social Welfare and Blantyre City Council. Our main objective is to improve the welfare of vulnerable groups in regards to the effects of HIV/ Aids pandemic. The NGO is serving communities with emphasis on supporting orphans, vulnerable children, elderly and chronically ill patients with financial support as well as psychological support through counselling.
BAHASI works in partnership with Blantyre City Council under the department of the social welfare office. We receive support in the form of volunteering from Student Volunteers Abroad in Scotland, our two Swedish Volunteers Julia and Moa and volunteers from the Peace Corp in South America.
The organization is operating in Bangwe Township Wisiki Village, T/A Machinjiri, Blantyre, about 150m to the left after Bangwe Day Secondary School, Robert Mugabe Highway.

- To improve the welfare of orphans and other vulnerable groups who have been affected by or who have contracted HIV and AIDS.
- To care for and provide treatment and other support to people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) as well as the elderly.
- To sensitize the community on environmental degradation and to provide training on how to conserve the environment.
